Learn About Tottenville
Tottenville is the southernmost point of both Staten Island and New York State, a neighborhood rich with maritime history and a small-town feel. Originally known as Bentley Manor, it was renamed in 1869 to honor the Totten family, prominent local figures and builders. The area is home to the landmark Conference House, built around 1680, where a famous but unsuccessful peace conference was held in 1776 to try and end the Revolutionary War. Today, Tottenville is celebrated for its stunning Victorian architecture, quiet residential streets, and its unique position overlooking the Raritan Bay and the Arthur Kill.
✦ Why I Love Tottenville ✦
My connection to Tottenville is personal; after moving here from Manor Heights, I’ve come to cherish the distinct, coastal pace of life that defines the South Shore. Living here allows me to appreciate the neighborhood’s historic beauty and tranquil waterfront every day, giving me a firsthand understanding of why so many people are drawn to this unique 'end of the island' sanctuary.
What I love most about Tottenville is its undeniable sense of peace and tranquility. Standing at the water’s edge in Conference House Park, you feel worlds away from the city’s hustle, surrounded by acres of lush greenery and some of the most beautiful sunsets on the island. It is a neighborhood that has preserved its character with incredible care, from the historic wrap-around porches to the towering oak trees that line the streets. With its scenic shoreline, neighborhood parks, and relaxed pace compared to other parts of the city, Tottenville continues to attract buyers looking for a distinctive Staten Island coastal lifestyle.
